Jayda the Labrador's Biog

Jayda has inspired me. She has opened up a new world for me to research on dog’s behaviour, dog training and the Labrador breed.  It is fascinating to watch the way she communicates by just using her body language, her different moods, and how she lives life for the moment.

Jayda is a black Labrador Retriever. She is a good natured dog and highly intelligent. Sometimes too intelligent for her own good as she can get up to mischief. She loves to play tug, chase her tennis ball, steal my socks and have a splash around in water! She's a bit nervous around certain other dogs or some new environments, for example different floor surfaces, but she soon gains her confidence and becomes very adaptable. She is the kind of good natured dog that will want to greet the person before she greets the person’s dog.  She doesn't let me forget when it's her dinner time as she will come and nudge me with her nose.

She has passed her Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards Bronze and Silver and has competed at beginner and novice levels in competition obedience. She learns quickly, but also gets bored quickly, so training needs to be kept short, with lots of motivation like her favourite food. Being a Labrador she will do anything for food!

She will lounge around all day, but as soon as it's time for a walk, she will be up and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Like adopting a child
And watching her grow
Being with her
Through good times and low.

At your side and always faithful
Never a bad word and always playful
Eating your socks and stealing your shoe
Always wanting to have a good chew.

Living for the moment and happy with life
Never worried about the future
or any trouble or strife.

She’s only a dog I hear them say
But they don’t see her every day.

The wag of a tail is a powerful tool
After a hard day at work
It makes you calm and cool.

The petty things in life seem to go away
Like a breath of fresh air
On a warm summers day.

Willing to get up at a moment’s notice
Eager and happy to work
With plenty of focus.

She’s only a dog I hear them say
But they don’t see her every day.

A dogs life is shorter they already know how to love and be kind
We humans live longer as we need more time.

Their life is too short
Their only fault really
For she will always know
She is loved dearly.

So stop and think about how they spend their days
And maybe we should make note of their ways.

For the time will come when we have to part
And she will be forever in my heart.

She's only a dog I hear them say
But I wouldn’t have changed a single day.
